New Delhi, August 4: The Indian Ministry of External Affairs has condemned the attack by Houthi rebels on an Indian-flagged cargo ship in the Red Sea. The ministry expressed deep concern over the ongoing attacks on commercial vessels in the region. It emphasized the need for uninterrupted movement along international maritime routes.
The cargo ship, named ‘Faiz Noor-e-Olia,’ sank following the assault near Yemen’s western coast on Tuesday. The Houthi rebels executed the attack using an explosive-laden boat.
All 13 Indian nationals aboard the ship have been safely rescued. The Indian embassy in Riyadh is closely monitoring the situation and is actively coordinating with Yemeni authorities to ensure the crew’s safety.
The ministry thanked the Yemeni officials for their cooperation and assistance.
The ministry reiterated its alarm over the continuous attacks on commercial vessels in the area. It called for an immediate cessation of targeting commercial ships. The restoration of unhindered movement and trade along international maritime routes must be prioritized in accordance with international laws.
The government-supported National Resistance Forces (NRF) stated that joint operations by the coast guard and naval units successfully rescued the crew of the ‘Faiz Noor-e-Olia.’ The vessel was attacked approximately 13 nautical miles south of the port city of Hodeidah, which is under Houthi control.
According to the statement, all 14 individuals aboard were safely rescued and transported to a secure location. They received medical assistance, and there were no reported casualties. The NRF has held the Houthi group responsible for this attack, but there has been no response from the Houthis as of yet.
