India Shines with Four Gold Medals in Boxing at Commonwealth Games 2026

Glasgow, August 1: The Commonwealth Games 2026 marked a remarkable day for India in boxing, with the nation securing four gold medals by 9:30 PM on Saturday. Following the victories of Preeti Pawar and Jasmine Lamboria, Sakshi Yadav and Priya Ghanghas also clinched gold in their respective final bouts.

In the competition held at SEC Hall 5, Sakshi Yadav triumphed in the 51 kg title match against England’s Ruby White with a decisive 5-0 victory. The first round was entirely dominated by Sakshi, with all five judges scoring in her favor. Ruby made a strong comeback in the second round, earning 10-10 scores from four judges. However, Sakshi regained her dominance in the final round, once again receiving 10-10 scores from all five referees.

In the next bout, Priya Ghanghas defeated Canada’s Mary-Bathul Al-Ahmadieh with a score of 4-1. The Canadian boxer, competing from the ‘blue corner,’ initially took the first round 3-2, with three judges awarding her 10-10 scores. Priya, however, made a remarkable comeback in the subsequent round, earning 10-10 scores from four judges. The final round was crucial for Priya, and she delivered an outstanding performance, securing 10-10 scores from four judges to win the title bout.

On Saturday, Preeti Pawar opened India’s account in boxing, winning the women’s 54 kg competition against Canada’s Scarlett Savana Delgado with a score of 5-0. Following her, Jasmine Lamboria claimed the title in the women’s 57 kg category by defeating Northern Ireland’s Michaela Walsh 5-0. However, Jadumani Singh had to settle for a silver medal after losing to Australia’s Jai Dixon 5-0 in the final.

With a total of 33 medals, India currently stands fifth in the Commonwealth Games 2026. The country has won 10 gold, 15 silver, and 8 bronze medals so far. In athletics, India has secured 15 medals (3 gold, 7 silver, 5 bronze), while boxing has contributed 4 gold and 1 silver medal. In judo, India has achieved 2 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze medal, and in weightlifting, the country has claimed 1 gold, 6 silver, and 1 bronze medal, along with 1 bronze in para powerlifting.
