Glasgow, August 1: Boxer Jadumani Singh, who secured a silver medal for India at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, has attributed his success to fellow boxer Sarita Devi. Jadumani emphasized that Sarita’s unwavering guidance and support played a crucial role in his impressive performance at the games.
In the final match, Jadumani faced Australia’s Jai Dixon, ultimately finishing in second place after a 0-5 defeat. The 22-year-old boxer put up a strong fight over three rounds, but Dixon’s disciplined counter-punching and precise scoring proved decisive.
Reflecting on his journey post-final, Jadumani shared that Sarita has been a mentor throughout his career, remaining closely connected during the Commonwealth Games.
He stated, “Sarita ma’am has supported me since childhood. She has done so much for me, whether it’s about my diet, training, or every aspect of being an athlete. She talks to me daily and video calls me regularly. She has always taught me how to embrace the sport and what it takes to become a successful boxer.”
The silver medalist added, “Sarita Devi’s support was even more vital during this competition. She continuously guided me on how to fight, what to do, and what to avoid. She watched every match and provided essential feedback after each fight. Her encouragement that I would return home with a gold medal was incredibly significant for me.”
In the Round of 32, Jadumani defeated Scotland’s Aaron Cullen 5-0, followed by a 5-0 victory against Pakistan’s Sumama Rahman. He then triumphed over Zambia’s Mwengo Mwale 5-0 in the quarter-finals and defeated Namibia’s Philip Pumulo Mutakela Haoseb 5-0 in the semi-finals. Despite missing out on gold, Jadumani expressed that the silver medal has boosted his confidence ahead of greater challenges.
“I am happy to win a medal for India, but of course, I wanted gold. This silver medal will inspire me to work even harder. Now, my focus is on improving myself and performing well at the Asian Games and other major international competitions,” he concluded.
