Indore, October 11 (Daily Kiran) : Team India secured a thrilling 14-run victory over West Indies in the third T20 match held at Holkar Stadium in Indore on Sunday. Indian captain Shreyas Iyer commended his bowlers for their clear strategy and determination, noting that their disciplined bowling helped them stick to their game plan.
Leading the bowling attack, Arshdeep Singh excelled with figures of 3 wickets for 44 runs. With this win, India now holds a 2-1 lead in the five-match series. Iyer remarked, “It was impressive because the bowlers had complete confidence in their approach. Their intent was crystal clear. They were very committed to executing their plan, and every bowler was ready for the challenge when I handed them the ball. That’s exactly what you want.”
The captain also praised the batting performance that set the foundation for the win, highlighting Abhishek Sharma’s 69 runs, Ishan Kishan’s 37 runs, and Prince Yadav’s crucial unbeaten 13 runs. He stated, “Honestly, it was a fantastic start. Abhishek did what he does best during the powerplay, and Kishan has been in great form lately. Even Prince’s contribution at the end was vital. You can never take the West Indies lightly, so we had to ensure we remained focused. Both grounds are high-scoring, but it’s essential to stick to our processes and routines while staying aggressive.”
West Indies captain Shai Hope acknowledged that his bowlers could have performed better and attributed their score of 209/7 to the absence of dew. He said, “There are several aspects we could point fingers at, but the margin of victory in cricket is often very slim. As a winning team, you can highlight key moments. Perhaps we could have bowled better and gave away some boundaries. The way we fought back in the match was commendable. From the start, if you look at that partnership, it was quite dangerous, but thanks to Rostan, we picked up some wickets and regained control of the match.”
Hope also emphasized the need for a stronger top three in the batting order but refrained from blaming specific players. He added, “We need a solid opening partnership to lay a strong foundation, but we can’t hold just one or two players accountable. The absence of dew also had an impact. We felt the ball was swinging a bit more towards the end of our innings. However, credit goes to the Indian bowlers; they bowled exceptionally well and showed us how to deliver yorkers. They deserve the credit.”
