Devotees Gather for Spectacular Bhasma Aarti at Mahakaleshwar Temple

A large crowd witnessed the Bhasma Aarti of Baba Mahakal at Ujjains Mahakaleshwar Temple, marking a significant spiritual event.

Ujjain, October 16 (Daily Kiran) : The Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain came alive on October 16 as devotees gathered for the Bhasma Aarti of Baba Mahakal, celebrated on the sixth day of the bright fortnight in Ashwin. A large number of worshippers flocked to the temple complex to witness this divine spectacle.

Early Friday morning, the temple doors were opened amidst the sounds of drums and trumpets, following the blessings of Lord Veerabhadra. After the elaborate adornment and the Bhasma Aarti, devotees were granted the opportunity to have darshan of Baba Mahakal. The atmosphere was electric, filled with chants of “Jai Shri Mahakal,” as the temple resonated with the ringing of bells, conch shells, and the recitation of mantras.

As the temple gates opened, the rituals began with the sacred water abhishekam of Lord Mahakal, using Panchamrit made from milk, yogurt, ghee, honey, and fruit juices. During the worship, the first bell was rung, and holy water was offered. Following the camphor aarti, Baba donned a crown, and the Bhasma Aarti commenced, accompanied by the sounds of jingles, drums, and conch shells.

Baba Mahakal was beautifully adorned with a crown, silver moon, and trident, captivating the many devotees who had queued since the night before to witness the Bhasma Aarti. According to tradition, the Mahanirvani Akhada offers this sacred ceremony, believed to transform Baba Mahakal from formless to a tangible presence for his devotees. Many pilgrims traveled to the holy city of Ujjain to partake in this auspicious event.
