New Delhi, May 27: India has issued a stern warning to Pakistan regarding cross-border terrorism, stating that if it continues to support terrorism, it will face consequences. P. Harish, India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, addressed the Security Council on Tuesday, emphasizing that Pakistan must permanently cease all forms of support for terrorism.
He stated, “Pakistan must acknowledge that promoting cross-border terrorism has repercussions. India has the full right to defend itself against such terrorism.” This statement was made in response to remarks made by Pakistan’s Permanent Representative, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, during the Security Council meeting, which aimed to reinforce the objectives and principles of the UN Charter.
Harish also criticized Pakistan’s claims of respecting the UN Charter. He pointed out, “Pakistan’s use of cross-border terrorism and its policy of ‘weakening India by inflicting a thousand cuts’ reveals the hollowness of its claims and its alleged commitment to the UN Charter. Since its inception, Pakistan has consistently promoted terrorism, religious extremism, violent radicalism, and anti-India rhetoric.”
During the session, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad claimed that the Kashmir issue remains unresolved despite numerous UN Security Council resolutions and pointed fingers at India. He stated, “The Jammu and Kashmir issue has been unresolved for nearly eight decades, while several Security Council resolutions advocate for the right to self-determination for the Kashmiri people.”
However, Pakistan itself has not adhered to the fundamental conditions set by the Security Council. The UN Security Council Resolution 47, passed on April 21, 1948, called for Pakistan to withdraw all tribal fighters, hidden soldiers, and civilians from Kashmir, a demand that Pakistan has ignored, leading to a gradual decline in the UN’s role in Kashmir.
Harish asserted, “Jammu and Kashmir is legally and permanently a part of India.” He added, “By waging wars, attacking India without provocation, and continuously supporting cross-border terrorism, Pakistan has violated the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity, and peaceful coexistence.”
Sticking to its longstanding position on Kashmir, Pakistan exercised its right to respond just before the meeting concluded, reading a pre-prepared statement that also attacked ‘Hindutva.’ India dismissed these comments as unworthy of a response.
