India Ensures Steady LPG Supply Amid Fuel Concerns

New Delhi, March 15: The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas announced on Sunday that India remains self-sufficient in the production of petrol and diesel. All domestic refineries are operating at high capacity to meet local demand, eliminating the need for fuel imports.

The ministry also confirmed that there is a sufficient inventory of crude oil in the country. Reports indicate no fuel shortages at retail outlets of major oil marketing companies like Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum due to the regular supply of petrol and diesel.

Citizens are advised not to panic-buy, as ample stocks of petrol and diesel are available nationwide. The statement further emphasized that the government prioritizes the supply of LPG to essential sectors, including hospitals and educational institutions.

The ministry reassured citizens that there is no need for alarm, as the government is committed to maintaining adequate LPG availability for households and essential services. LPG cylinders can be booked through various digital platforms, including IVRS calls, SMS booking, WhatsApp, and mobile applications from oil marketing companies (OMCs).

OMCs are promoting digital bookings and discouraging panic purchases, keeping LPG distributor offices open even on Sundays to ensure smooth supply.

Consumers are urged to avoid unnecessary visits to LPG distributors and utilize digital booking platforms instead. In light of the current geopolitical situation, monitoring of LPG supply continues. A decline in LPG bookings was noted, with approximately 77 lakh bookings recorded on Saturday compared to 88.8 lakh on Friday. Online LPG cylinder bookings have surged from 84% to nearly 87%.

The statement indicated that priority sectors are receiving secure gas supplies, including 100% supply of PNG and CNG, while supply to industrial and commercial consumers is being controlled at around 80%.

Commercial LPG consumers in major cities and urban areas are encouraged to opt for PNG connections, which can be applied for via email, letters, or customer portals of City Gas Distribution (CGD) companies.

Domestic LPG production from refineries has been maximized, and consumers are urged to book refills online. To ensure equitable distribution, booking intervals have been limited to 25 days in urban areas and 45 days in rural regions.

To meet alternative fuel needs, states and union territories have been allocated an additional 48,000 kiloliters of kerosene. To alleviate pressure on LPG supply, alternative fuels like kerosene and coal have been activated in certain sectors, including hospitality and restaurants.
