Lucknow, June 17: India has triumphed over Afghanistan by 170 runs in the second match of the ODI series held at the Ekana Stadium. With this victory, India has secured an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. India set a formidable target of 403 runs for Afghanistan, who were bowled out for 232 in just 44.3 overs, marking their second-largest defeat in terms of runs in ODI history.

To chase the daunting target, Afghanistan needed a substantial innings from their top order. Unfortunately, the first four batsmen failed to convert their starts into significant scores, leading to a heavy defeat.

Rahmat Shah was the standout performer for Afghanistan, scoring 79 runs. He was supported by Sediqullah Atal with 42 runs, Rahmanullah Gurbaz with 41, and Ibrahim Zadran with 21 runs. No other batsman managed to withstand the Indian bowling attack.

For India, Arshdeep Singh was impressive, taking three wickets for 45 runs in nine overs, while Gurnoor Brar also claimed three wickets, conceding 60 runs in ten overs. Prince Yadav, playing his debut match, took two wickets, and Washington Sundar added one more to the tally.

Afghanistan won the toss and opted to field first, allowing the Indian team to bat. Thanks to captain Shubman Gill and wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan’s century partnerships, India amassed 402 runs in 49.5 overs. Gill scored 154 runs off 110 balls, hitting two sixes and 22 fours, marking his ninth ODI century.

Ishan Kishan contributed significantly with 125 runs off 79 balls, including seven sixes and 14 fours, achieving his second ODI century. The duo of Gill and Kishan set a record 224-run partnership for any wicket against Afghanistan in ODIs.
