New Delhi, September 15 (Daily Kiran) : The Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA) celebrated its silver jubilee on September 15, 2026, at the Vivek Auditorium in Mandi House, New Delhi. The event was graced by Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan, External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri.
Speaking at the occasion, Jaishankar expressed his delight at marking 25 years since the ICWA was designated as an institution of national significance. He thanked Vice President Radhakrishnan for attending the ceremony and highlighted the ICWA’s ongoing efforts since its establishment in 1943 to study and promote international affairs. In 2001, Parliament recognized its contributions, granting it national importance in addressing global issues.
Jaishankar noted that this anniversary is not just a reflection on the past but also an opportunity to consider the ICWA’s future role. He emphasized that India has transformed significantly, and so has the global landscape. Today, India engages more actively with a broader range of countries and regions than ever before, leading to increased national interests that are now more global in nature.
He remarked that India’s responsibilities and the world’s expectations of it have grown. India now presents its views on global challenges with greater confidence, particularly on issues affecting all of humanity. As India’s role on the world stage expands, so must its intellectual engagement and participation in international affairs.
Jaishankar pointed out that traditional discussions around international relations have often been shaped by the experiences and ideas from other countries. An emerging India must incorporate its own wisdom, experiences, and perspectives into this discourse, rather than relying solely on external frameworks.
The ICWA plays a crucial role in this endeavor by fostering informed and meaningful discussions from an Indian perspective. It helps illuminate the options available to India and contributes to presenting its viewpoints with confidence on the global stage. Therefore, the ICWA should actively participate in the debates and discussions that shape the development of any emerging nation.
Vice President Radhakrishnan also addressed the gathering, highlighting the significance of the “New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration” adopted at the BRICS Summit, which addresses key issues such as a collaborative global order, strengthening multilateral cooperation, and promoting peace and security. He expressed confidence that the world order will continue to evolve, with India playing a more active role under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is seen as a voice for peace, progress, and prosperity on the global stage.
