
Singapore, June 1: Defense Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh met with Representative Pat Harrigan in Singapore on May 31. Harrigan led a bipartisan U.S. congressional delegation (CODEL). The meeting focused on regional security, enhancing defense cooperation, and advancing shared strategic interests in the Indo-Pacific.
In a post on the social media platform X, the Ministry of Defense’s Public Relations Directorate stated, “Defense Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh had a productive discussion with Representative Pat Harrigan, who led a bipartisan U.S. congressional delegation (CODEL).”
The statement further emphasized, “The talks reaffirmed the strength of the India-U.S. defense partnership, discussing regional security, enhancing defense cooperation, and advancing shared strategic interests in the Indo-Pacific.”
Rajesh Kumar Singh is currently on an official visit to Singapore to participate in the Shangri-La Dialogue. During this dialogue, decision-makers from the Asia-Pacific, North America, Europe, the Middle East, and beyond will gather to discuss pressing regional security issues and share policy responses.
Earlier on Sunday, Singh met with the defense ministers of New Zealand and Singapore during the Shangri-La Dialogue. These discussions aimed to strengthen defense relations, enhance maritime cooperation, and improve information-sharing arrangements between the two countries.
According to the Ministry of Defense, the main focus of the discussions was to strengthen bilateral defense relations, enhance maritime cooperation, advance information exchange mechanisms, and reaffirm a shared commitment to a secure, stable, and inclusive Indo-Pacific region.
At the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, ministers from various countries are discussing critical issues. There are also opportunities for bilateral meetings between different country delegations.
As per a statement from the Ministry of Defense, on Saturday, Rajesh Kumar Singh met with Singapore’s President Tharman Shanmugaratnam at a reception during the Shangri-La Dialogue. Both sides discussed strengthening strategic relations and enhancing cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
Additionally, Singh met with Peter Sandwall, the State Secretary of Sweden’s Defense Minister. Both leaders discussed enhancing cooperation in the defense sector and exploring new partnership opportunities in defense technology and innovation.
