India and Cambodia Conclude Joint Military Exercise Simbax, Prepare for Pragati

New Delhi, May 17: A significant counter-terrorism exercise has been successfully completed in Cambodia, focusing on high-risk operations against terrorists. The Indian military participated in this joint exercise, ‘Simbax–II 2026’, alongside Cambodian forces. During the training, troops from both nations engaged in drone, mortar, and sniper drills.

Specialized skills training was also conducted, emphasizing strategic tactics. The exercise commenced on May 4 and concluded on May 16. Its primary goal was to enhance interoperability, coordination, and operational synergy between the military forces of India and Cambodia. ‘Simbax’ is viewed as a pivotal initiative in India’s military diplomacy and international collaboration.

The joint exercise concentrated on anti-terrorism operations, with troops practicing in forested and semi-urban environments. Soldiers learned from each other’s experiences, facilitating the exchange of modern techniques and strategies while strengthening on-ground coordination. The training took place at the Royal Cambodian Air Force Training Center in Kampong Speu Province.

A contingent of 120 Indian soldiers participated, primarily from the Maratha Light Infantry Regiment. The Cambodian side included 160 personnel from the Royal Cambodian Army. According to the Ministry of Defense, this joint military exercise has further solidified the bilateral relations between India and Cambodia.

Looking ahead, the Indian Army is set to host the multinational military exercise ‘Pragati’ from May 18 to May 31, 2026, at the Foreign Training Node in Umroi, Meghalaya. This exercise will involve military units from 12 friendly nations. The theme, ‘Resolute, Relentless, and United’, aims to strengthen military cooperation, coordination, and mutual understanding among participating countries.

During ‘Pragati’, soldiers will share experiences related to modern warfare skills, counter-terror operations, joint strategies, and humanitarian assistance and disaster relief missions. This exercise in Northeast India is expected to bolster regional security cooperation and promote India’s military diplomacy.
