Brussels, March 16: India’s External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar is on a two-day visit to Belgium. On the second day of his trip, he met with Belgian Foreign Minister Maxim Prevo in Brussels.
During their discussions, both nations explored ways to enhance cooperation in trade, investment, health, and innovation.
According to information shared by the Ministry of External Affairs, Jaishankar’s visit follows the 16th India-EU Summit. The objective is to deepen the strategic partnership established in recent talks.
Jaishankar took to the social media platform ‘X’ to share insights from his meeting, stating, “The second day in Brussels began with a meeting with Belgian Foreign Minister Maxim Prevo. We discussed strengthening our collaboration in trade and investment, semiconductors, health, technology, and innovation. We agreed to establish a strategic dialogue between our nations.”
Earlier, Minister Jaishankar also highlighted his conversation with the Cypriot Foreign Minister, expressing, “I was very pleased to meet Cypriot Foreign Minister Konstantinos Kombos in Brussels today. We discussed ways to further strengthen our strategic partnership and exchanged views on the current situation in West Asia. We appreciate Cyprus’s cooperation in advancing EU-India relations while holding the presidency of the EU Council.”
It is noteworthy that India-EU relations have reached historic heights in 2026. Earlier this year, the long-standing strategic partnership between the two regions transformed into economic and geopolitical alignment. Both sides have strengthened ties in trade, security, technology, sustainable development, and global issues.
In January 2026, India and the European Union signed a landmark free trade agreement. This agreement was reached as the United States sought to impose tariff pressures and trade on its own terms with all countries.
