India Accuses Pakistan of Concealing Failures Through Fake News and Human Rights Violations

New Delhi, June 9: India has accused Pakistan of continuously spreading fake news and videos to divert attention from its failures and the human rights violations occurring in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK). During a weekly press briefing on Tuesday, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal expressed hope that the international community would hold Pakistan accountable for its wrongdoings and human rights abuses.

When asked about the ongoing protests in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (POJK) and the crackdown on demonstrators, Jaiswal stated, “We are witnessing a steady stream of fake news and videos from Pakistan. This is a desperate attempt to hide its failures and distract from human rights violations. Reports of police brutality in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir have emerged, resulting in several deaths and injuries. We hope the international community will hold Pakistan accountable for its wrongdoings and atrocities.”

Local media reports indicate that clashes between members of the Joint Action Committee (JAC) and law enforcement in Rawalakot, POK, have resulted in the deaths of 12 individuals, including eight protesters and four security personnel. The local administration has confirmed that several security personnel were also injured. According to Pakistan’s leading newspaper, The News International, strict security measures have been implemented across POK following the incident, with officials closely monitoring the situation.

These clashes occurred shortly after the POK government designated the JAC as a banned organization under anti-terrorism laws ahead of a proposed protest on June 9. Reports suggest that Rawalakot has become the epicenter of the protests spreading throughout POK, coinciding with the administration’s crackdown on JAC-affiliated activists.

The European Times reported that tensions escalated following the JAC’s designation as a banned organization and the increased security measures ahead of its planned long march. Protest leaders have also claimed that internet services have been shut down across POK since the night of June 5, severely disrupting communication among the populace.

According to reports from various areas in POK, the movement has now spread beyond Rawalakot, with protests and shutdowns also reported in Muzaffarabad, Mirpur, Tata Pani, and Palandri. Local activists in Palandri have blocked several major roads in support of the movement.
