Imran Masood Comments on Restoration of Historical Names in Lahore

New Delhi, May 25: Congress MP Imran Masood has responded to the restoration of historical street names in Lahore, Pakistan, along with discussing U.S.-India relations, the Delhi Gymkhana Club, and political issues in Tamil Nadu.

In an interview, Masood remarked that when a society attempts to erase its heritage and history, it eventually realizes the consequences of its decisions over time.

He noted that the Hindu population in Pakistan has significantly dwindled, yet there is a movement to restore old Hindu names. Masood highlighted that historical sites in Lahore, such as Ram Gali, Sudarshan Chowk, and Hari Ghat, are being redeveloped and beautified. He believes this initiative is not merely political but also an effort to rectify past mistakes and heal social divisions.

Masood emphasized that preserving history and cultural heritage is a responsibility of any society.

Regarding U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio‘s visit to India and the agreements between the two nations, Masood expressed uncertainty about the primary objectives of Rubio’s trip. He stated that some agreements made by India with the U.S. do not seem to benefit the general public.

He pointed out that India remains a developing country, with inflation disproportionately affecting the poor and middle class. Masood accused international economic policies of contributing to rising inflation and economic pressure.

He also commented on the central government‘s decision to reclaim and restart operations at the historic Delhi Gymkhana Club. Masood stated that the club is primarily associated with the elite class, and the ongoing discussions around it appear disconnected from the issues faced by the general populace.
