New Delhi, July 11: Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta launched a large-scale tree plantation campaign in Rohini on Saturday. He emphasized that the survival rate of planted trees is the true measure of any green initiative’s success.
At Chitragupt Park in DDA District Park, Sector 14, Gupta stated, “Planting a tree is not just an event; it is a commitment to future generations. The real success of a planting campaign lies not in the number of trees planted, but in how many of those trees survive and thrive.”
He stressed that merely planting trees is insufficient. Gupta pointed out that the survival and ongoing care of each plant should be the top priority.
“There is a significant difference between planting a tree and ensuring it grows into a healthy one. Our responsibility does not end with planting; it begins there,” he urged citizens to diligently care for each plant.
The plantation program was organized by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) in collaboration with NGOs to promote sustainability and encourage public participation in creating a cleaner, greener, and healthier Delhi.
During the event, over 500 Jamun saplings were planted, with a special focus on enhancing greenery through local plant species.
Addressing the attendees, Gupta noted that due to continuous public participation and long-term environmental efforts, Rohini has emerged as one of the greenest areas in Delhi.
He called for this initiative, which began at the District Park, to evolve into a people’s movement that reaches every household, encouraging citizens to actively participate in preserving and enhancing Delhi’s greenery.
Gupta urged residents to organize tree planting campaigns in their local parks and become active partners in environmental conservation.
Referencing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s nationwide initiative, “One Tree in the Name of Mother,” he highlighted that this campaign encourages every citizen to plant and care for a tree in honor of their mother, conveying a profound emotional and cultural message.
He concluded that caring for such a tree becomes a lasting symbol of love, gratitude, and remembrance, strengthening both family values and environmental awareness.
