Gorakhpur, July 11: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will kick off the statewide tree plantation campaign, “Mahayagna 2026,” from Gorakhpur this Sunday. He will plant trees near the Gorakhpur Link Expressway and along the Tal Ring Road as part of the “One Tree in Mother’s Name” initiative. During this event, he will address the public, urging them to participate responsibly in the plantation drive.
Accompanying the Chief Minister will be the state’s Minister of Forests and Environment, Dr. Arun Kumar Saxena. This year, the state government has set an ambitious target of planting 350 million trees. The Chief Minister will inaugurate the campaign by planting a sacred trio of trees—Neem, Peepal, and Banyan—near the Link Expressway, and he will plant a Moulshree tree along the Tal Ring Road. Under CM Yogi’s guidance, the state aims to achieve a record 350 million tree plantings this time.
All preparations have been completed in coordination with the Forest Department for this extensive campaign. Gorakhpur has been assigned the responsibility of planting 55,286,600 trees. The Forest Department holds the largest target among the 27 departments involved in this plantation initiative. According to Shubham Singh, the Divisional Forest Officer of Gorakhpur, all nurseries have ensured the availability of quality saplings to meet this target.
To enhance the growth and survival of the plants, advanced soil work has been completed at designated planting sites. This includes digging pits, arranging topsoil, developing planting locations, and making necessary arrangements for plant protection.
