New Delhi, August 4: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued district-wise ‘nowcast’ warnings for several states, alerting residents about impending thunderstorms, lightning, heavy rainfall, and strong winds over the next two to three hours.
A ‘Red Alert’ has been declared for Patiala district in Punjab, indicating severe weather conditions that require immediate action. The IMD predicts thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, strong winds reaching speeds of approximately 60 km/h, and heavy rainfall exceeding 15 mm/h. Residents are advised to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel.
Additionally, ‘Orange Alerts’ have been issued for various districts across multiple states. These alerts indicate a high likelihood of thunderstorms, lightning, winds blowing at speeds of 40–60 km/h, and moderate to heavy rainfall ranging from 5 to 15 mm/h or more.
Affected districts in Punjab include Fatehgarh Sahib, Ludhiana, Sangrur, and SAS Nagar. In Uttar Pradesh, the impacted areas are Amethi, Ayodhya, Barabanki, Fatehpur, Hardoi, Kanpur Dehat, Kanpur Nagar, Lucknow, Pratapgarh, Raebareli, and Unnao.
The alerts also extend to Kasaragod in Kerala, Dakshina Kannada, Shivamogga, and Udupi in Karnataka; Bhind, Datia, Gwalior, Morena, Shyopur Kalan, and Shivpuri in Madhya Pradesh; Jiribam, Kamjong, Noney, Senapati, and Tamenglong in Manipur; North Dinajpur in West Bengal; Longleng, Mokokchung, Mon, and Wokha in Nagaland; Golaghat, Jorhat, Majuli, and Sivasagar in Assam; Ambala, Faridabad, Gurugram, Kaithal, and Kurukshetra in Haryana; and Bageshwar, Dehradun, Pithoragarh, Tehri Garhwal, and Uttarkashi in Uttarakhand.
The IMD has stated that updated weather information, including ‘Yellow Alerts’ and district-specific nowcasts, is available on its official weather portal. Officials are closely monitoring the changing weather conditions and have urged the public to stay informed through official channels.
