A cyclonic circulation remains over the Bay of Bengal, tilting southwards with height. A trough is also present, extending from Haryana through North Chhattisgarh up to the centre of cyclonic circulation in the north-west Bay of Bengal at a height of 1.5 to 3.1 kilometres above sea level. The monsoon trough runs from Bikaner, Jaipur, Agra, Prayagraj, Daltonganj, Jamshedpur, and Digha to the Bay of Bengal. Due to the impact of all these weather systems, heavy rainfall is expected in Bastar division and adjoining districts.

Continuous rain has been ongoing in Surguja division for the last three days, disrupting normal life. In Ambikapur, the district headquarters of Surguja, this year’s monsoon has broken a 24-year-old record. As of 24 August, Ambikapur has achieved 100 percent of its seasonal rainfall target for the entire monsoon season.
