Godda, September 16 (Daily Kiran) : Authorities in Godda, Jharkhand, have dismantled an alleged mini gun factory operating under the guise of social service and RTI activism. A joint operation by the Bihar STF and Jharkhand police targeted a residence in the Ghata Baliyan village within the Mahagama police jurisdiction. During the raid, officers seized firearms, ammunition, and machinery used for weapon manufacturing.
The primary suspect, identified as Pawan Kumar Turi, had established himself in the community as a social worker and RTI activist. The police uncovered a hidden room in his home after breaking through a wall with a JCB. Inside, they found a loaded rifle, live cartridges, a pistol, several semi-finished pistols, iron frames for making firearms, along with various tools such as a lathe and drill.
To transport the seized items to the police station, authorities utilized a tractor and pickup truck. The operation, led by Mahagama SDPO Varun Rajak, involved police from six different stations. Local residents reported that Turi often played loud film music at his home, allegedly to mask the sounds of machinery used in weapon production. Villagers claimed he misled them by presenting the equipment as a machine for making disposable plates, distributing these during social events to maintain his public image.
Upon learning of the raid, Turi fled the scene with some weapons in a car. The police have detained his family members for questioning and are conducting searches at potential hideouts to locate the fugitive. Despite the presence of police stations in the nearby areas of Mahagama, Lalmatia, and Boarijor, concerns have been raised regarding the local intelligence operations that allowed this arms manufacturing business to operate for an extended period.
