Hyderabad Police Implements Drug Testing for Repeat Offenders

Hyderabad, April 10: The Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing has decided to take strict action against individuals with criminal records. The police have initiated drug testing for all habitual offenders in the police commissionerate area.

Sources revealed on Friday that the police have identified 1,300 repeat offenders across the commissionerate. Initially, authorities tested 250 of these individuals, with 190 testing positive. Most of those who tested positive were found to be using marijuana. Those identified as positive have been sent to de-addiction centers.

This initiative was launched due to the belief that there is a significant link between drug use and rising crime rates. It is reported that many repeat offenders are addicted to drugs, which is considered a major factor contributing to increased criminal activity. Officials believe that drug testing will help identify the sources supplying drugs to these habitual offenders.

The Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing is conducting thorough investigations to uncover the sources of narcotics and drugs. Authorities are hopeful that they will be able to identify suppliers and distribution networks. This campaign is part of ongoing efforts by officials to make Telangana drug-free.

A special branch of Telangana police, the Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement (EAGLE), is conducting raids at various locations to combat the threat posed by drugs. The police have already taken steps to closely monitor habitual offenders.

Recently, Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar surprised many by visiting the homes of repeat offenders at midnight. During these visits, he reviewed their criminal records and current lifestyles, warning them against engaging in criminal activities.

Without any police sirens or commotion, he went directly to the homes of offenders residing in MD Lines, Hashim Nagar, and Defense Colony. The top police officer woke the offenders and inquired about their criminal history, current lifestyle, livelihood, and social behavior.

The police commissioner warned them that strict action would be taken if they committed crimes again. They were advised to abandon their criminal habits and choose a better path.
