Guwahati, February 23: The establishment of the first border pillar between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh marks a significant milestone, according to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. He stated that this development resolves decades of uncertainty along the border between the two states.
On Monday, Chief Minister Sarma took to social media platform X to announce, “A historic milestone has been achieved. The first border pillar has been erected in the Pakke-Kesang district following the signing of the Namsai declaration between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. This is truly a major achievement, as it ends the long-standing uncertainty regarding our inter-state boundary.”
Sarma further expressed gratitude towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his leadership and acknowledged the guidance of Amit Shah in continuing these efforts. He also thanked Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu for his support.
In a statement, Sarma emphasized that the installation of the border pillar symbolizes clarity, cooperation, and trust between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. He noted that this initiative will bring lasting peace and administrative certainty to border villages that have been affected by ambiguity for decades.
The Chief Minister explained that the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border dispute, which involved several districts, has often led to confusion over jurisdiction, impacting development projects and services in border areas. The Namsai declaration, signed in the presence of the central home ministry, outlines a framework for resolution based on mutual agreement and the welfare of the people.
Sarma concluded by highlighting that the agreement prioritizes historical records, ground realities, and the well-being of local communities, ensuring that the resolution is sustainable and acceptable to those living along the border.
