Indian Coast Guard Successfully Conducts Medical Evacuation Operation

Bhubaneswar, June 15: The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) successfully executed a critical medical evacuation operation on June 14 near the Paradip coast in Odisha. During this operation, a 39-year-old Indian sailor was rescued from the Liberia-flagged merchant vessel MV MSC Diya F.

According to reports, the ship was en route to Colombo when the sailor suddenly fell ill, exhibiting symptoms akin to a cardiac arrest. Given the severity of his condition, immediate assistance was requested from the ship.

Upon receiving the distress call, the Indian Coast Guard swiftly initiated a rescue operation. Despite adverse sea conditions and challenging weather, the Coast Guard team successfully extracted the sailor from the vessel and transported him to medical assistance.

The Indian Coast Guard stated that this timely intervention allowed the patient to receive necessary treatment. This operation underscores the Coast Guard’s commitment to safeguarding human life at sea and its high operational capabilities.

Previously, on June 8, the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) in Mumbai conducted a significant operation, rescuing 24 Indians from near Masirah, Oman. This followed reports of a missile attack on the anchored Palau-flagged tanker MT Marivex, which had 24 Indian crew members on board.

Following the incident, the MRCC coordinated with the Oman Maritime Search and Rescue Centre (OMSC) to monitor the situation and ensure the crew’s safety. The OMSC confirmed that all 24 Indian crew members were safely rescued by Omani naval helicopters. Fortunately, all individuals were unharmed, and the ship remains anchored near Masirah, Oman.
