Udaipur, October 23, 2025 (Daily Kiran). — Hindustan Zinc has announced its partnership with BecomingX for the world’s deepest marathon, set to take place 1,120 metres below the Earth’s surface in Sweden’s Boliden Garpenberg zinc mine — one of the world’s most advanced mines.

The event, scheduled for October 25, aims to set a Guinness World Record and bring together 60 runners from 18 countries, including CEOs, mining industry representatives, charity workers, and amateur runners. Many participants will be running their first marathon, pushing both their physical and mental boundaries in an extraordinary underground environment.
The initiative also carries a humanitarian mission — the runners collectively aim to raise USD 1 million (around ₹8 crore) for charity. Hindustan Zinc, one of the world’s largest integrated zinc producers and among the top five global silver producers, is the official partner for this record-breaking event.
Representing Hindustan Zinc at the marathon will be CEO Arun Misra and COO Kishore S, who will join other industry leaders and adventurers in this extraordinary challenge.
Sharing his thoughts on the collaboration, Arun Misra, CEO of Hindustan Zinc, said,
“At Hindustan Zinc, we believe that true strength lies in challenging boundaries — whether it’s human endurance, safety excellence, or technological innovation. The world’s deepest marathon embodies the spirit of resilience and progress that defines modern mining. As an ICMM member and a global leader in sustainable mining, we are proud to support this remarkable initiative that highlights transformation and safety standards shaping our industry. Personally, I’m excited to join global colleagues in this race — a symbol of unity, strength, and shared commitment to redefining the future of mining.”
This partnership reflects Hindustan Zinc’s continued commitment to sports, fitness, and community wellbeing. Earlier this year, the company successfully hosted the second edition of the Vedanta Zinc City Half Marathon in Udaipur, which saw participation from over 7,000 runners supporting Run for Zero Hunger, an initiative of the Anil Agarwal Foundation’s Nand Ghar project.

Through other initiatives like the AIFF 3-Star Accredited Zinc Football Academy, India’s first residential tech-driven girls’ academy, and the AIFF Zinc Blue Cubs League, Hindustan Zinc continues to promote grassroots sports and nurture emerging talent.
