India and Australia Launch AgriMaitri Initiative to Boost Agricultural Cooperation

New Delhi, April 3: India and Australia have officially launched the ‘AgriMaitri’ initiative aimed at enhancing agricultural business collaboration. Recently, Western Sydney University hosted a special roundtable meeting, with the first session taking place in the national capital.

According to a report by The Australia Today, the inaugural ‘AgriMaitri India Roundtable’ was held at the Australian High Commission. This event is seen as a significant step towards increasing cooperation in the agricultural sector between the two nations. The initiative aims to bring together various stakeholders from India and Australia to develop practical and scalable solutions.

Dr. Vanita Yadav, who is leading the project, emphasized that this roundtable marks an important beginning in promoting collaboration among individuals from diverse fields and addressing challenges within the agricultural sector.

A total of 58 representatives from government, industry, agritech companies, research institutions, academia, and trade organizations participated in the event. It provided a robust platform for exchanging ideas between stakeholders from both countries.

The ‘AgriMaitri’ initiative is being advanced by a multidisciplinary team of experts from both nations, supported by various partner institutions. This initiative is backed by the ‘Maitri Research Grant’ under the Australia-India Relations Centre, which operates under Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Dr. Yadav noted that the term ‘Maitri,’ which means ‘friendship’ in Sanskrit, reflects the core spirit of this initiative. Its goal is to explore new possibilities in the agricultural sector by leveraging the complementary strengths of both countries and addressing challenges.

Professor Basant Maheshwari added that this initiative is not limited to discussions; its aim is to transform these ideas into concrete projects that will yield economic and social benefits for both nations.

The ‘AgriMaitri’ roundtable is considered a strategic effort to elevate agricultural cooperation between India and Australia, promoting innovation, sustainability, and mutual development.
