Kabul, April 3: In a series of attacks from Pakistan in eastern Afghanistan, at least two children have lost their lives, and around 30 others have been injured. Local media reports indicate that these assaults were carried out through shelling and drone strikes.
Taliban spokesperson Hamdullah Fitrat stated that attacks have been ongoing since Wednesday, targeting residential areas in the provinces of Kunar, Paktika, and Khost. He reported that the Pakistani military has conducted continuous mortar, rocket, and drone strikes, predominantly affecting civilians, especially children.
In the districts of Sarkano and Manogai in Kunar province, over 150 mortars and long-range shells were fired, damaging numerous homes. The assault in the Nawapas area of Sarkano resulted in the deaths of two children and injuries to eight others.
Additionally, in the Shkin district of Paktika province, a drone strike injured three civilians, while another drone attack in the Jaji Maidan area of Khost left two individuals wounded.
Afghan officials have strongly condemned these actions by Pakistan, alleging that residential areas are being deliberately targeted, causing significant harm to the local populace.
Tensions between Kabul and Islamabad have escalated in recent months, with numerous casualties reported due to airstrikes and shelling from Pakistan. Meanwhile, discussions between officials from both countries have commenced in Urumqi, China.
Afghanistan’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Abdul Qahar Balkhi confirmed that an Afghan delegation has traveled to China for talks with Pakistani officials.
According to Afghanistan’s Minister of Economy, Qari Din Mohammad Hanif, recent attacks by Pakistan have displaced over 27,000 families across nine provinces. He noted that these families are deprived of basic necessities such as food, clothing, shelter, and healthcare, and have appealed for assistance from the United Nations and other organizations.
