Udaipur, May 8, 2026 (Daily Kiran): Hindustan Zinc Limited has been included for the first time in the ‘Dow Jones Best-in-Class Index 2026’ for emerging markets, strengthening its position among the world’s leading companies in environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance.

The company, which is the world’s largest integrated zinc producer and among the top global silver producers, said the recognition places it among select global corporations known for balancing economic growth with environmental and social responsibility.
The Dow Jones index tracks companies that demonstrate strong long-term performance across economic, environmental and social parameters. It also helps investors identify businesses considered future-ready and sustainable.
CEO Arun Misra said the recognition reflects the changing role of metals in the future economy. He stated that the next phase of mining will be defined not only by production capability but also by responsibility and transparency. He added that sustainability is not just a target for the company, but the foundation of its business strategy.
According to the company, Hindustan Zinc’s inclusion in the 2026 index highlights its standing among top global ESG performers in the metals and mining industry. As of March 31, 2026, only 25 Indian companies are part of the Dow Jones Best-in-Class Emerging Markets Index, with Vedanta Limited and Hindustan Zinc being the only representatives from India’s metals and mining sector.
The company was also ranked as the world’s most sustainable metals and mining company in the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment 2025. Hindustan Zinc is the first Indian mining company to become a member of the International Council on Mining and Metals.
The company has also launched EcoZen, described as Asia’s first low-carbon zinc product produced using renewable energy. According to the company, the product delivers over 75 percent lower carbon intensity compared to conventional zinc production.
In addition, Hindustan Zinc said it is certified as a 3.32 times water-positive company and has prepared a roadmap to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050 or earlier.
With its inclusion in the Dow Jones Best-in-Class Index, the company said it has further strengthened its position as an ESG-focused global organisation committed to responsible resource production, strong governance and innovation-led sustainable growth.
