Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Launches Digital Census Initiative

Shimla, June 2: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhu Singh Sukhu took significant steps towards the digital census on Tuesday. He provided comprehensive information regarding the digital census initiative. The event was attended by Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. (Colonel) Dhani Ram Shandil, MLA Kamlesh Thakur, and the Chief Minister‘s Secretary Ashish Singhmar.

During the meeting, the Census Director Deep Shikha Sharma and senior officials from the department briefed the Chief Minister on the census preparations. They assured that measures have been put in place to ensure that the public faces no difficulties during the process.

The Chief Minister urged citizens to provide all necessary information for the digital census by June 15. He emphasized that without accurate data from the public, the true picture of the state cannot be revealed. This lack of information would hinder the development plans and the initiation of welfare schemes for the people. He stressed the importance of public participation in order to facilitate the launch of beneficial programs for the residents of the state.

Sukhu announced that the Census-2027 in Himachal Pradesh will be conducted in two phases. The first phase will run from June 16 to July 15, 2026, focusing on household listing and housing census. The second phase will involve the population count.

He highlighted that this census will be entirely digital. Residents will be able to provide basic information about themselves and their families via mobile devices. This data will be crucial for future development efforts in the state.

Furthermore, he noted that in hilly and remote areas, the digital census process will continue from September 11 to 30. The overall process in the state is expected to be completed by February 9 to 28, 2027.

Additionally, he appealed to the public to assist the officials involved in the digital census. Maintaining a positive attitude towards the census staff will facilitate a smoother process.
