Trump Open to Meeting with Kim Jong Un, Rubio Says, But No Plans Yet

Marco Rubio stated that Trump is willing to meet Kim Jong Un if positive outcomes are possible, though no meeting is currently scheduled.

Atlanta, October 31 (Daily Kiran) : During a press conference following the G20 foreign ministers’ meeting, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that President Donald Trump is open to meeting North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, provided there is a chance for positive and constructive outcomes. However, Rubio emphasized that no specific plans for such a meeting have been established at this time.

Rubio indicated that Trump is willing to engage in discussions related to issues involving the United States and its allies, particularly South Korea. He did not provide details regarding the date, location, or any formal preparations for a potential summit.

“I have no announcement to make on this matter today,” Rubio stated. He reiterated that Trump is prepared to meet Kim again if there is a possibility of achieving tangible and positive results, but currently, there are no arrangements in place.

Rubio also mentioned that Trump does not view meetings with any leader as concessions or endorsements of their policies. He believes that dialogue is essential, even in the face of significant differences.

If North Korea is willing to discuss concerns raised by the U.S. and its allies, Rubio noted that the door to negotiations remains open. However, he did not disclose any potential agenda or conditions for such talks.

On the topic of U.S.-South Korea relations, Rubio remarked that visa-related issues would be resolved bilaterally between the two nations. He also referred to a trilateral meeting held during the G20 summit with Japan and South Korea, where the three countries signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) aimed at enhancing peaceful relations, trade, and regional stability.

The first historic meeting between Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un took place in June 2018 in Singapore, followed by a second summit in Hanoi, Vietnam, in February 2019. The two leaders also met in June 2019 in the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ).
