Swanwick Takes Lead at Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship as Indian Players Exit Early

New Zealands Jack Swanwick leads the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship, while Indian players Anshul Mishra, Arkesh Bhatia, and Ribhav Verma miss the cut.

Tomarata, New Zealand, October 31 (Daily Kiran) : Jack Swanwick of New Zealand secured his lead in the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship, scoring a remarkable four-under 67 for the second consecutive round. This event is taking place at the Te Arai Links South Course in Tomarata, New Zealand. His impressive performance has brought his total score to seven-under par.

Swanwick began the week with a challenging start, finishing the first 15 holes at four-over par. However, he rebounded spectacularly, playing the next 39 holes at an impressive eleven-under par. This performance has given him a two-stroke advantage over the reigning champion, FIFA Laopakdee, and fellow New Zealander Cooper Moore.

Unfortunately, three Indian players—Anshul Mishra, Arkesh Bhatia, and Ribhav Verma—failed to make the halfway cut in the tournament.

The 20-year-old Swanwick, a student at the University of Florida, kicked off his day with six consecutive pars. He then added birdies on the sixth and seventh holes. After a bogey on the eighth hole, he rebounded with three more birdies on the 13th, 14th, and 18th holes, finishing the round at four-under.

Swanwick, Moore, Joshua Bai, and Jack May are all vying to make history. A win for any of these players would mark the first time a New Zealander claims victory in the 17th edition of the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship.

Laopakdee made headlines last year as the first Thai player to win this event, defeating competitors from Australia, China, Japan, and South Korea. He started this week strong with an eight-under 63 but slipped back to two shots behind after scores of 72 and 73 on Friday and Saturday.

Eighteen-year-old Moore, who reached the semifinals of the U.S. Junior Amateur this year, had a mixed round, carding four birdies and four bogeys to finish at even par.

Completing the top five before the final round are Japan’s Kaito Sato in fourth place at three-under and Australia’s Harry Takis in a tie for fifth at even par.
