
Nagaur Receives 7 Inches of Rain, Six Gates of Bisalpur Dam Opened, Holidays Announced in Schools Across 11 Districts
Jaipur, 24 August (Kiran News): The state is experiencing a spell of heavy rainfall, resulting in disrupted conditions across Sawai Madhopur, Bundi, Tonk, Kota, Nagaur, Hanumangarh, and other cities. Due to warnings of continued heavy rain, authorities have declared holidays for the next two days in schools across Jaipur and five other districts. Meanwhile, five people have died in separate incidents related to the rainfall. On Sunday, Nagaur received the highest rainfall at 173 mm.
According to the Meteorological Department, rainfall was recorded in various places including Jaipur, Ajmer, Bhilwara, Alwar, Pilani, Sikar, Kota, Chittorgarh, Dabok, Barmer, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Churu, Sriganganagar, Nagaur, Sirohi, Karauli, and Dausa. The Water Resources Department reported rainfall measurements as follows: Nagaur 173 mm, Deh 137 mm, Jayal 112 mm, Kheenvsar 99 mm, Degana 85 mm, Goluvala in Hanumangarh 92 mm, Sangaria 90 mm, Lunkaransar in Bikaner 91 mm, Chhoti Khatu in Didwana-Kuchaman 92 mm, and Mount Abu in Sirohi 72 mm.
Director of the Meteorological Centre, Radheshyam Sharma, stated that heavy to very heavy rain is expected to continue in parts of the state for the next three to four days. On Saturday, Dausa recorded 285 mm of rainfall. The likelihood of heavy to very heavy rain in southern and southwestern parts on 25th and 26th August is high. Some areas of Jodhpur and Bikaner divisions in western Rajasthan may also experience moderate to heavy rain with thunderstorms over the next 4-5 days.
School Holidays Announced in Several Districts
In view of the alert for heavy rainfall in the next 2-3 days, district collectors of Jaipur, Nagaur, Dausa, Didwana-Kuchaman, and Bundi have declared school holidays on 25th and 26th August. Students from classes 1 to 12 will get leave, while teachers are required to report to school. In Jaipur, Sikar, and 11 other districts, holidays of varying durations have been announced.
Five Dead Due to House Collapses
During the rainfall, five people lost their lives in separate incidents of house collapses. Two people died in Nagaur when a house collapsed. In the Loharpura area of Nagaur, an old building also collapsed. In Kota’s Sultanpur, a woman died late Saturday night after her house collapsed. In Didwana-Kuchaman, two people died after a wall collapse late at night. Flood-like situations have been reported in the districts of Hadoti, where army rescue operations are underway, and an Air Force MI-17 helicopter has been deployed. In Uniara, Tonk, a sub-divisional officer got trapped in waterlogging while assessing the situation and had to be rescued by tractor. In Dabok, Udaipur, four children drowned and died after falling into water-filled Kunwari Mines on Sunday.
Jaipur Records 4 Inches of Rain; Roads Waterlogged, Commuters Troubled
Rain, which began in Jaipur on Saturday morning, continued into Sunday before stopping in the afternoon. Around 100 mm of rain was recorded in Jaipur. Due to continuous rainfall, roads in major city areas were submerged, causing inconvenience to vehicle drivers. District Collector Jitendra Soni has ordered holidays in all government and private schools on 25th and 26th August. The city recorded a maximum temperature of 30.6°C and a minimum of 23.4°C. The rain has exposed lapses in government preparations, with roads damaged and waterlogging even in posh colonies. Sewer lines were blocked, and slow-moving traffic was reported due to water accumulation. In Bhankrota, water on the roads reached knee level, disrupting traffic and causing problems for residents. Heavy rain also disrupted life in the Govindgarh area. A road connecting Dhondsar and Nadiyavali, constructed just three months ago, was damaged. In Chaksu, a truck crossing a bridge on Duddu-Dausa State Highway was swept off the road by the current. Power cuts were reported in several parts of Jaipur, including Tonk Phatak, Barkat Nagar, and surrounding areas. Electricity was out from 4 am, and a major fault in the supply line was repaired after seven hours by the discom’s technical team. So far, Jaipur has received 623.2 mm of rainfall, which is more than the city’s average for the entire monsoon season (524.3 mm from 1 June to 30 September).
Reduced Inflow in Bisalpur Dam, Water Released from Six Gates
The inflow of water into Bisalpur Dam has slowed down. Currently, water is being released from six gates. Gates number 7 and 12 are open by 0.50 metres, while gates 8, 9, 10, and 11 are open by one metre each. At present, 30,050 cusecs of water is being released from the dam. The water level at Triveni stands at 3.90 metres.
