Dehradun, August 4 (H.S.) – Persistent rainfall since Sunday evening has led to rising water levels in major rivers across Uttarakhand, while hill streams and seasonal drains in the mountainous regions are overflowing. In light of the situation, the Meteorological Department has issued an Orange Alert for heavy to very heavy rain in Nainital, Champawat, and Bageshwar districts, and a Yellow Alert for other regions.

Authorities have taken precautionary measures by declaring a holiday for all schools (Classes 1–12) and Anganwadi centres today in Dehradun, Nainital, Pithoragarh, and Champawat districts.
Rudraprayag District Magistrate Prateek Jain announced that due to safety concerns from continuous rain, the Kedarnath Yatra has been temporarily suspended. Pilgrims are currently being held at Sonprayag, and the yatra will resume once weather conditions stabilize.
In Pithoragarh district, schools and Anganwadi centres in Didihat, Dharchula, and Munsyari blocks will remain closed today.
Vinod Suman, Secretary of the State Disaster Authority, confirmed that alerts have been issued for multiple districts and citizens have been asked to remain cautious. Patrolling and restrictions along rivers have been increased to prevent any untoward incidents. People are being warned against venturing near riverbanks.
