Heavy Rainfall Expected in Northeast and Eastern India, IMD Issues Orange Alert

New Delhi, March 30: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for heavy rainfall in Northeast and Eastern India.

The IMD forecasts significant rainfall in the northeastern states until tomorrow, indicating a likelihood of continuous rain in the region. The weather department has also predicted thunderstorms and rainfall in the plains of West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh, and Odisha. Additionally, thunderstorms and lightning are expected in Punjab, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Telangana, and western Rajasthan.

Today, an orange alert has been issued for Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim due to heavy rainfall. Hailstorms are anticipated in Bihar, West Bengal, and Sikkim today.

Similar weather conditions are expected in Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Mahe, South Interior Karnataka, Vidarbha, and the northeastern states. Coastal Karnataka will experience hot and humid weather until tomorrow.

According to the weather department, between March 30 and 31, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Rajasthan will see winds blowing at speeds of 30 to 50 kilometers per hour, accompanied by rain. Heavy rainfall with winds reaching up to 60 kilometers per hour is expected in Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and eastern Rajasthan on March 30. An alert has been issued for Uttarakhand due to anticipated heavy rainfall and strong winds across large areas on March 30-31.

Moreover, hail is expected in some areas of Jammu and Kashmir and western Rajasthan on March 30, as well as in Uttarakhand. The IMD warns of light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds in Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha between March 30 and April 2, and in Chhattisgarh over the next six days.
