Chennai, April 7: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted moderate rainfall in Chennai on Tuesday due to a low-pressure system extending from Telangana to the Gulf of Mannar.
This weather pattern is expected to bring intermittent rain to parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry over the next few days. The IMD forecasts light to moderate rain in several areas of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry by Friday. The low-pressure system is likely to result in overcast skies and light rain in some locations, particularly in coastal and interior districts.
By the weekend, weather conditions are expected to vary across different regions. Moderate rainfall is anticipated in the Western Ghats districts of Tamil Nadu on Saturday and Sunday, while light rain may occur in scattered areas of the delta districts.
Moderate rainfall in Chennai and its suburban areas is expected to provide temporary relief from the recent intense heat. However, despite the rain, temperatures in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are predicted to rise by up to 3 degrees Celsius in the coming days.
Recent rainfall has led to a significant drop in temperatures across many parts of the state. Yet, some districts continue to experience extreme heat. Erode recorded the highest temperature at 40 degrees Celsius, while Karur Paramathi reached 39.4 degrees Celsius. Vellore and Tirupattur also reported temperatures around 38.3 degrees Celsius, indicating persistent heat in the interior regions.
Meteorologists have advised the public to remain vigilant about sudden weather changes, which may include light rain accompanied by strong winds in certain areas.
While the rain is expected to provide short-term relief, the overall trend of rising temperatures suggests that heat conditions will persist in most parts of the state.
Officials are closely monitoring changes in the weather system and have urged the public to stay informed through official forecasts, especially in areas prone to sudden rain and temperature fluctuations.
