Heavy Rain Forecast for Tamil Nadus Delta Districts Amid Rising Temperatures

Chennai, June 14: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall in parts of Tamil Nadu’s delta region on Sunday. This is due to atmospheric circulation affecting several northern coastal districts, where moderate rain is also expected.

According to the weather department, districts such as Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Nagapattinam, and Mayiladuthurai are likely to experience heavy rain during the day. Officials have warned that some areas may also see strong winds reaching speeds of up to 50 kilometers per hour.

The current weather system is expected to bring rain to various parts of the state. Moderate rainfall is anticipated in Chengalpattu, Kanchipuram, Cuddalore, and Tiruvannamalai districts. Similar conditions are expected in the Union Territory of Puducherry, as well as in Kallakurichi, Villupuram, Ariyalur, Perambalur, and Pudukkottai districts.

Meteorologists state that moisture is being drawn into the northern coastal areas due to wind patterns, creating favorable conditions for rainfall.

As a result of this system, the delta and adjacent districts are likely to remain humid throughout the day. In contrast to the expected rainfall in many districts, Chennai and its surrounding areas may face hot and humid conditions.

The weather department has estimated that temperatures in some parts of the city could rise to around 39 degrees Celsius. However, residents may find some relief from the heat later in the day, as light to moderate rain is expected in certain suburban areas of Chennai. The combination of high temperatures and humid winds may lead to uncomfortable weather across the city.

Officials have advised residents in districts where heavy rain is forecasted to remain vigilant, especially in low-lying areas where flooding could occur. They have also urged caution during thunderstorms and strong winds.

With the southwest monsoon actively influencing local weather patterns in Tamil Nadu, officials are closely monitoring the situation. Residents are encouraged to stay updated through official weather bulletins and alerts issued by the IMD.

This forecast comes at a time when intermittent rain has recently provided some relief from the heat in various parts of the state, but concerns about localized flooding in vulnerable areas have also increased.
