Heavy Rain and Strong Winds Expected in Tamil Nadu Over the Next Three Days

Chennai, June 13: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted moderate rainfall accompanied by strong winds in several parts of Tamil Nadu over the next three days. The western ghats and the Cauvery delta districts are expected to experience the most significant weather activity.

According to the weather department, a cyclonic circulation in the upper atmosphere is affecting the northern coastal regions of Tamil Nadu, as well as Puducherry and Karaikal. This system is likely to bring rainfall for at least another week in several areas.

The IMD reported that moderate rain with strong winds could occur in the western ghats, delta regions, and northern interior areas of Tamil Nadu on Friday and Saturday. Due to moist winds and favorable weather conditions, significant cloud formation and intermittent rain are anticipated in these regions.

Weather officials indicated that moderate rainfall is likely to continue in the western ghats, delta districts, and parts of southern Tamil Nadu on Saturday and Sunday as well.

The ongoing weather system is expected to maintain the rainfall pattern, leading to relatively cooler conditions in many parts of the state. Areas adjacent to the western ghats, including hilly regions, may also experience strong winds and occasional rain.

In the agriculturally significant Cauvery delta region, similar conditions are expected, where rainfall could boost agricultural activities ahead of the farming season.

The weather department has advised residents in vulnerable areas to remain cautious, especially in regions where flooding and strong winds could cause temporary disruptions. People working outdoors are also urged to stay updated on weather information and exercise necessary precautions during heavy rain and storms.

In Chennai, the sky is expected to be generally overcast throughout the day. Some areas may experience moderate rain, along with thunderstorms and lightning. While heavy rainfall is not anticipated on a large scale, sporadic rain could impact traffic and daily activities in certain parts of the city.

The IMD stated that it will closely monitor the changing weather conditions and issue updated forecasts and advisories as needed. Rainfall is expected to continue in various parts of Tamil Nadu in the coming days, providing relief from the recent humid conditions.
