Chennai, May 28: The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai has issued a warning for heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds in several parts of Tamil Nadu. This weather condition is attributed to multiple active atmospheric circulations in the region.
The weather department reported that cyclonic circulations are currently active over northern Tamil Nadu, the southeast Arabian Sea, and the central-southeast Bay of Bengal.
Due to these weather systems, widespread rainfall is expected across many areas of the state over the next two days.
According to the RMC, heavy rains along with strong winds are likely in the Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Dindigul, and Theni districts on Thursday.
Additionally, the department has issued a warning for surface winds reaching speeds of 40 to 50 kilometers per hour in Vellore, Tirupattur, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Salem, and Erode districts. Officials stated that the unstable weather conditions could temporarily disrupt normal life, particularly in hilly and western districts where heavy rainfall is anticipated.
The weather department further indicated that rainfall may continue on Friday in Vellore, Tirupattur, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, and Ranipet districts. However, temperatures in some areas of northern interior Tamil Nadu could rise by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius on Friday, leading to increased heat and humidity.
For Chennai and its surrounding suburbs, the RMC forecasts partly cloudy skies with uncomfortable daytime heat. The maximum temperature in the city could reach around 40 degrees Celsius, making the weather humid and uncomfortable despite cloud cover.
Meanwhile, due to the expected adverse sea conditions in the Tamil Nadu coast, Gulf of Mannar, and central parts of the Bay of Bengal, fishermen have been advised against venturing into the sea.
Authorities have urged coastal residents and the fishing community to remain vigilant and keep an eye on official weather updates, as conditions at sea may remain hazardous for the next 24 hours.
