Bhopal, August 3 (H.S.): After a brief lull in heavy rainfall activity across Madhya Pradesh over the past three to four days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh alert predicting heavy rain over the next two days. Today, Sunday, heavy showers are expected in nine districts of Gwalior, Chambal, and Sagar divisions.

According to the IMD, an alert has been issued for Gwalior, Sheopur, Morena, Bhind, Shivpuri, Datia, Niwari, Tikamgarh, and Chhatarpur, where up to 4.5 inches of rainfall is expected in the next 24 hours. Meteorologist Dr. Divya E. Surendran stated that a cyclonic circulation and trough are currently located over the northern part of the state. While these systems are not significantly affecting the rest of Madhya Pradesh, they are likely to bring heavy rain to the northern regions for the next two days.
Earlier, light showers were recorded in several districts including Tikamgarh, Guna, Narmadapuram, Chhatarpur’s Nowgong, Rewa, Sagar, Satna, Sidhi, and Umaria. Tikamgarh alone received more than half an inch of rain.
Last week, several parts of the state experienced flood-like conditions, particularly in the eastern regions — Jabalpur, Rewa, Shahdol, and Sagar divisions — which received substantial monsoon rainfall. In Raisen, the Betwa River swelled beyond its banks, submerging fields, temples, and bridges. Although the rainfall paused for two days, the Narmada River remains in spate, and several dams are overflowing, prompting authorities to open their gates.
Rainfall records show that districts like Gwalior, Rajgarh, Shivpuri, Guna, Ashoknagar, Chhatarpur, Tikamgarh, Niwari, Morena, and Sheopur have already received their full quota of seasonal rainfall, with precipitation exceeding normal levels by up to 50 percent. Tikamgarh and Niwari have recorded the highest rainfall, while Indore has received the least. Bhopal and Jabalpur have both seen about half of their average seasonal rainfall so far. The state has recorded an average of 28 inches of rainfall till now.
