
Beijing, March 14: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi spoke on the phone with his Dutch counterpart, Tom Berendsen, on Friday. Wang congratulated Berendsen on his new role and emphasized that China and the Netherlands are important partners.
Wang noted that both nations promote mutually beneficial cooperation with a spirit of openness and practicality, which is advantageous for their shared interests and the healthy development of China-EU relations. He appreciated the positive signals from the new Dutch government regarding the importance of relations with China.
In reference to the recently concluded “Two Sessions,” Wang stated that China will continue to expand its voluntary and institutional openness, providing more opportunities for countries worldwide, including the Netherlands. He expressed hope that the new Dutch government would act independently and support normal economic exchanges between enterprises of both nations.
On his part, Dutch Foreign Minister Tom Berendsen acknowledged the remarkable achievements of China’s rapid development and regarded relations with China as one of the Netherlands’ most significant bilateral ties. He expressed a desire to maintain high-level exchanges, deepen practical cooperation in areas such as climate change and water management, and uphold multilateralism.
During the phone conversation, both foreign ministers also discussed various issues, including the Ukraine crisis.
