Heavy Rain Alert in Western Tamil Nadu, Strong Winds Expected Until May 2

Chennai, April 27: The Regional Meteorological Centre has issued a heavy rain forecast for parts of western Tamil Nadu, including Nilgiri, Coimbatore, and Erode, starting Friday. This rainfall is expected to continue for at least three days.

According to the weather bulletin, a low-pressure system affecting Tamil Nadu and surrounding areas is likely to bring widespread rainfall across the state from April 30 to May 2.

Meteorologists indicate that this system could lead to rain lasting nearly a week, providing much-needed precipitation to several districts. The forecast suggests moderate rainfall will begin today in the districts of the Western Ghats and coastal regions of southern Tamil Nadu over the next three days.

The impact is expected to be particularly significant in hilly and nearby areas, where geographical factors may intensify rainfall. Additionally, moderate rain is anticipated in delta districts and coastal areas during this period.

Officials have advised residents in low-lying and flood-prone areas to remain vigilant, as intermittent rainfall may lead to localized flooding in some regions.

The weather department has issued a special warning for May 1 and 2, predicting heavy rainfall in districts such as Salem, Krishnagiri, and Dharmapuri. These areas may experience heavy rain accompanied by strong winds, potentially causing local disruptions.

Alongside the rain, strong surface winds are also expected, with speeds reaching up to 40 km/h in various areas during the rainfall.

Authorities have urged fishermen and those engaged in outdoor activities to stay informed about weather warnings, as sudden changes in weather conditions could pose risks.

While the rain is expected to provide some relief from the intense heat, officials have urged district administrations to be prepared for any emergencies, such as fallen trees, power outages, or minor flooding.

The weather department is closely monitoring this system and is expected to release further updates should conditions change.
