Mumbai, August 1: In response to warnings of heavy rainfall and strong winds in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, local authorities have taken precautionary measures. Over 200 large banners and hoardings have been removed, and unsafe advertising structures have been dismantled. All schools, colleges, and Anganwadi centers in the district will remain closed on August 1 due to the weather forecast.
The Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation reported that the meteorological department has predicted heavy rain and strong winds in Gandhinagar and surrounding areas. Consequently, a comprehensive survey was conducted throughout the city.
During this operation, more than 200 potentially dangerous banners were safely removed to mitigate the risk of accidents caused by high winds. The corporation has also initiated action against illegal and unsafe hoarding structures. Those found in dilapidated condition or erected without permission were identified and brought down using machinery.
This campaign focused on major roads, city entrances, and other busy areas to prevent any loss of life or damage from falling structures during adverse weather conditions. The municipal corporation stated, “We are prepared to handle any emergencies during the monsoon. The campaign to remove hazardous hoardings will continue in the coming days.”
Advertising agencies and private property owners have been urged to remove their dangerous boards and structures voluntarily. Citizens are advised to stay in safe locations during heavy rainfall and report any hazardous hoardings or trees to the municipal corporation’s toll-free control room.
In light of the weather forecast, the district administration has declared a holiday for all schools, colleges, and Anganwadi centers in Gandhinagar on August 1. The district health department has also put its emergency arrangements on alert. A total of 44 rapid response teams, including 40 stationed at primary health centers, have been deployed. Each taluka will have one team ready, equipped with ambulances, essential medicines, and emergency supplies for 24-hour assistance if needed. Additionally, 174 field teams are continuously monitoring, conducting health checks, and carrying out rescue operations across the district. Chlorination of drinking water sources, spraying of medicines for disease prevention, and distribution of medications to those in need are ongoing.
Special arrangements have been made for pregnant women expected to deliver this week. Officials have maintained regular contact with them and have pre-planned transportation to safe hospitals in case of heavy rainfall.
The health department has urged the public to ignore rumors, drink boiled water, and contact the nearest primary health center in case of any health emergencies.
