Russia Confirms Timely Delivery of S-400 Systems Ahead of Modi-Putin Meeting

Russia assures timely delivery of S-400 air defense systems to India, a key agenda for the upcoming Modi-Putin meeting.

New Delhi, September 8 (Daily Kiran) : Russia has reaffirmed its commitment to deliver the remaining S-400 Triumph air defense systems to India on schedule. Dmitry Peskov, spokesperson for the Kremlin, stated on Tuesday that this topic will be a significant part of the agenda during the upcoming meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Vladimir Putin in New Delhi.

During a virtual media briefing hosted by Sputnik India, Peskov emphasized, “Russia is capable of fulfilling all its responsibilities and will do so. This issue will be part of the discussions between our two leaders.”

In 2018, India and Russia signed a $5.43 billion agreement to procure five S-400 air defense systems. The delivery of two of these systems is expected to be completed in 2026.

In March 2026, the Defense Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, approved the purchase of additional S-400 long-range surface-to-air missile systems for the Indian Air Force. According to the Ministry of Defense, the S-400 systems will protect critical areas from long-range aerial threats.

Peskov described the defense cooperation between India and Russia as a strong foundation for their bilateral relations, noting that Russia is prepared to share its advanced military equipment with India. He added that their collaboration extends beyond mere transactions and has reached the level of joint production.

Highlighting the BrahMos missile program, Peskov stated that it is time for both nations to modernize this missile, enhance its capabilities, and make it more competitive and effective in the global market.

He also mentioned that military cooperation will be a crucial topic during President Putin’s visit to New Delhi, although specific details cannot be disclosed due to security reasons.
