Bengaluru, September 8 (Daily Kiran) : Karnataka health authorities launched a raid on a Swiggy Instamart dark store in Bengaluru on September 8, 2026. This operation is part of a broader effort to combat the storage and sale of expired food items and medicines.
During the raid, U.T. Khader, Karnataka’s Health and Family Welfare Minister, urged consumers to always check the expiry dates on food and medicine before making a purchase. This raid is part of a significant campaign by the food safety and drug safety departments in Bengaluru and surrounding areas.
Khader informed the media that in the past week alone, nearly ₹3 crore worth of expired food products and medicines have been seized across the state. Some of these items were allegedly stored for sale with new labels affixed to them.
He emphasized the importance of vigilance among customers when buying food, medicines, and other products. “I urge people to always check the expiry date of any product before purchasing. If you notice anything suspicious, please report it,” Khader stated.
The state government has introduced QR codes and barcodes to assist customers in verifying products. Additionally, Khader called on social activists to raise awareness about this system in public spaces. Continuous checks and community involvement are essential to prevent expired and mislabelled goods from reaching consumers through both online and offline channels.
In a related finding, officials discovered approximately ₹45 lakh worth of medicines at dark stores in Hosakote, some of which had altered labels. The seized products are now in custody for further investigation.
