Lucknow, September 8 (Daily Kiran) : Students from the AYUSH department at the National Homeopathic Medical College and Hospital gathered outside Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak’s residence on September 8 to demand an increase in their stipend. They highlighted that their stipend has not changed since 2011 and argued that it should be on par with that of MBBS and BDS students.
Maria, a student at the college, stated, “We are here to request an increase in our stipend. We are not here to protest against the government, but to make a plea. We provide care to patients just as allopathic doctors do. If we are doing the same work, our payment should reflect that. We urge the government to increase our stipend.”
Jalaj Kumar Yadav expressed frustration, noting, “Our stipend has not been raised in the past 15 years. We currently receive only 7,500 rupees. In 2011, the stipends for MBBS, BDS, and AYUSH students were equal. Since then, the stipends for MBBS and BDS students have increased twice, while AYUSH students have been overlooked. Each time we ask for an increase, we only receive assurances.”
Nivedika Singh added, “We demand that our stipend be raised from 7,500 to 25,000 rupees. For many years, we have only received 7,500 rupees, while other courses see their stipends increased. We want the Uttar Pradesh government to provide us with stipends equal to those of other courses. We have made this demand several times before but have not succeeded. We want to submit our memorandum to the Deputy CM.”
Lav Prabhat echoed the sentiment, saying, “There has been no increase in our stipend for the past 15 years. In that time, BDS and MBBS students have seen their stipends raised twice. We work in OPD, IPD, and emergency departments just like students from other disciplines. Therefore, we are here to demand a stipend increase.”
