The Crucial First 180 Days: Why Proper Nutrition is Essential for Children

New Delhi, September 8 (Daily Kiran) : The early days of a child’s life are both delicate and critical. The first six months establish a strong foundation for their development. During this period, infants require optimal nutrition, love, and care to thrive.

Breast milk is considered the most vital and precious source of nutrition for babies in their first six months. It contains essential nutrients tailored to the infant’s needs, promoting physical growth and enhancing immunity. The first milk produced by mothers, known as colostrum, is particularly significant. This thick, yellowish milk is rich in nutrients and provides essential early protection for newborns.

Experts recommend exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months. During this time, infants typically do not need water, honey, or other foods, as breast milk sufficiently meets their nutritional and hydration needs.

Breastfeeding also strengthens the emotional bond between mother and child. The warmth and closeness experienced during feeding play a crucial role in the baby’s emotional development.

Once the child reaches six months, it becomes important to introduce nutritious complementary foods alongside continued breastfeeding. Soft, nutritious, and easily digestible foods can gradually be added to the child’s diet based on their age and needs. Maintaining breastfeeding during this transition remains essential.
