Chandigarh, July 15: Haryana’s Chief Electoral Officer, A. Srinivas, announced on Wednesday that approximately 260,000 voter registration forms distributed under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) have yet to be returned. The majority of these pending forms are concentrated in Gurugram.
The Election Commission has adjusted the schedule for the voter list revision in Andhra Pradesh and Haryana. The final publication date for the voter lists in both states is set for October 3.
The qualifying date for both states is July 1. However, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has decided that the draft publication of the voter lists will occur on July 31.
In an interview with a news agency, A. Srinivas stated that around 260,000 individuals have not yet submitted their enumeration forms. Consequently, a request has been made to the Election Commission to extend the deadline.
With the extension in place, the focus will be on ensuring that no voter is left out. Efforts will be made to collect all completed enumeration forms. District collectors are involved in this initiative, particularly in areas with the highest number of pending forms.
Srinivas highlighted that the most unreturned enumeration forms are from Gurugram, where approximately 120,000 individuals have yet to submit their forms. Other urban areas such as Rohtak, Faridabad, and Hisar also have a significant number of pending applications.
Discussing the SIR process, Srinivas explained the ASD category, which includes absent, shifted, deceased, and duplicate voters. This category accounts for about 16.28% of Haryana’s total voters, equating to approximately 3.36 million individuals. Names in this category will not appear in the new draft list.
Additionally, the ECI has announced that the period for filing claims and objections will run from July 31 to August 30. The resolution phase for these claims and objections will take place from July 31 to September 28.
On Tuesday, the commission reiterated that the final publication of the voter list will occur on October 3.
The CEO of Haryana stated that the department is prepared for the claims and objections that voters may submit. Anticipating a large volume of claims and objections, additional Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) will be appointed throughout Haryana to ensure voters face no difficulties.
Meanwhile, Srinivas addressed recent allegations of sexual harassment involving a female BLO in Nuh district, clarifying that the matter is personal and unrelated to the SIR process.
