Ahmedabad, July 15: BJP National Spokesperson Rohan Gupta has labeled the India-UK trade deal as historic. He also commented on various issues, including Congress leader P. Chidambaram’s remarks on delimitation, the Assam-Bangladesh infiltration issue, the inclusion of 77 Muslim communities in West Bengal‘s OBC list, and the Mathura Krishna Janmabhoomi dispute. Gupta accused the opposition of opportunistic politics and appeasement.
Welcoming the free trade agreement between India and the United Kingdom, Gupta described it as a significant step for the country’s economy and export sector. He emphasized that excessive economic dependence on a single country is not in India’s best interest as it strives for development. Recent challenges in India-US trade relations have highlighted the need for India to cultivate new and robust global markets for its exports. The Modi government has established several free trade agreements in recent years, and this deal with the UK will open new avenues for Indian exporters, enhancing the recognition of Indian products in the global market. This agreement will also strengthen the goal of an Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India).
In response to Chidambaram’s claim that the BJP is seeking support from the NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) and DMK to pass the delimitation bill, Gupta targeted Congress. He suggested that Congress should reflect on its political conduct. The party has failed to maintain trust with its allies over time, often disappointing them when opportunities arise. Many parties in the opposition alliance now understand Congress’s approach. Gupta asserted that Congress prioritizes its political interests and should reconsider its stance before advising others.
On the issue of illegal infiltration along the Assam-Bangladesh border, Gupta stated that politics should not interfere in national security matters. He noted that whenever the central or BJP-led state governments take strict measures to curb illegal infiltration, the opposition tends to oppose them. He stressed the need for enhanced border fencing and security measures, stating that timely and effective actions could have significantly controlled the infiltration problem. Gupta emphasized that infiltrators have no religion, and this is a serious issue related to national security. The BJP will not show leniency regarding border security and will continue to take necessary actions against illegal infiltration in accordance with the law.
Regarding the inclusion of 77 Muslim communities in West Bengal’s OBC list, Gupta accused the Trinamool Congress (TMC) of practicing appeasement politics. He pointed out that the Indian Constitution does not provide for reservations based on religion. Judicial processes have already addressed this issue, and decisions should align with the spirit of the Constitution rather than confuse the public. Gupta asserted that the country needs empowerment politics, not appeasement, and that government schemes should benefit all eligible citizens equally without sending separate messages for political gain.
On the Mathura Krishna Janmabhoomi dispute, Gupta accused the opposition of engaging in opportunistic politics. He remarked that many leaders attempt to present themselves as Hindu or Sanatani during elections, but when questioned about issues like Mathura, they avoid giving clear answers. The public has become aware of such politics. Those who hold faith in Sanatan principles maintain consistency in their views, while those who exploit religious issues for electoral gain reveal their true intentions over time. The public is increasingly recognizing the difference between opportunistic politics and genuine ideological commitment.
