Chandigarh, June 12: Haryana’s Industry Minister Rao Narbir Singh announced on Friday that Gurugram is expected to see significant relief from waterlogging during the monsoon season. This comes after corrective measures were implemented at all 158 identified flood-prone locations from last year.
Speaking at the foundation stone-laying ceremony for development projects worth ₹16 crore in the villages of Maidawas and Dhumaspur under the Gurugram Municipal Corporation, Singh emphasized the government’s commitment to accelerating development efforts.
He assured that there is no shortage of funds for public welfare initiatives. “People just need to bring proposals in accordance with the established rules and standards, and the government will spare no effort in addressing their issues and completing development projects,” he stated.
Singh reiterated that the primary goal of the government is to ensure that the benefits of development plans reach the last person in society. Describing Gurugram as a rapidly developing city, he mentioned that continuous efforts are being made to strengthen its infrastructure.
Addressing the recurring issue of waterlogging during the monsoon, he noted that last year, 158 sensitive spots across the city were identified. Following this, relevant departments launched special campaigns and implemented necessary corrective measures at these locations.
To enhance the city’s preparedness for the rainy season, drainage systems have been reinforced, drains have been cleaned, and other essential work has been completed. As a result, residents can expect considerable relief from waterlogging this year.
The minister emphasized that development should not only be viewed through the lens of roads, buildings, and other infrastructure projects; environmental protection is equally important. With the monsoon season approaching, he urged every citizen to participate in tree plantation campaigns.
Highlighting the importance of increasing greenery, Singh stated that approximately 14 trees are needed to absorb the carbon dioxide emitted by an average person daily. He appealed to the public to commit to planting and caring for more trees in their homes, fields, institutions, and public spaces.
