Harry Kane Confident Despite Draw, England Remains Strong in Group Stage

Foxborough, June 24: In a goalless draw during the FIFA World Cup 2026 Group L match between England and Ghana, captain Harry Kane remains optimistic about England’s position in the group. Despite not securing a win, Kane believes the team is still in a strong spot to finish at the top.

Throughout the match, England maintained control of the ball and attempted to score multiple times. However, Ghana’s robust defense consistently thwarted England’s attacks, making it difficult for them to create space in the penalty area. After the match, Kane acknowledged the challenge posed by Ghana, stating that while England had more possession and created good opportunities, they failed to convert those chances into goals.

Kane noted that Ghana appeared to tire in the latter stages of the match, which opened up opportunities for England. He remarked, “This was a match we could have won, but it didn’t happen. We had some good chances, but we couldn’t capitalize on them. Ghana defended very well, and some of their players were dangerous on counterattacks.”

He also mentioned a significant opportunity he missed, along with a shot from Nico O’Reilly that hit the crossbar. Nevertheless, Kane highlighted the team’s performance positively, emphasizing that England is still in a good position within the group. According to him, the team had previously secured a 4-2 victory against Croatia and achieved a clean sheet against Ghana, which bodes well for their campaign.

Kane explained that every match in a major tournament like the World Cup presents unique challenges. He noted that England gradually improved during the game and that the wingers performed well in one-on-one situations, although Ghana’s defense was formidable. The team is now focused on their next match against Panama. Kane stated that the goal is to finish at the top of the group and advance to the knockout rounds. He emphasized that major tournaments can be viewed in two phases: the group stage and the knockout round. England has made a strong start in the group stage and is now determined to finish it on a high note.
