Guwahati, October 13 (Daily Kiran) : Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya highlighted the need for enhanced disaster preparedness and coordination among emergency response agencies during a recent event in Guwahati. Speaking on October 13, he emphasized the importance of regular mock drills and effective collaboration between the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).

During the event, organized by Lok Bhawan Assam in collaboration with the CRPF as part of the “Namo Maatrubhoomi Suraksha aur Swavalamban Sankalp Saptah,” Governor Acharya underscored the principles of coordination, safety, and empathy in saving lives and ensuring public safety.

He praised the CRPF and NDRF as exemplars of the ethos “Nation First, Service Above All,” noting that the security forces maintain internal security and law and order, while disaster response teams conduct rescue and relief operations in emergencies.

The Governor commended the bravery, discipline, and dedication of CRPF personnel, especially acknowledging the contributions of female officers. He also highlighted the force’s participation in international missions, which contributes to India’s global peacekeeping and humanitarian efforts.

Addressing the risks of natural disasters in Assam, such as earthquakes, floods, and landslides, Acharya called for robust preparation and swift, coordinated actions. He recognized the efforts of NDRF, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), police, and other agencies in recent flood relief efforts in the districts of Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat, and Golaghat.

In a call to the youth, the Governor encouraged them to contribute to nation-building by leveraging their knowledge and skills in science, technology, innovation, and social service to create a safe, self-reliant, and disaster-resilient India.

The event featured a disaster management mock drill conducted by the NDRF, demonstrating emergency response procedures. The Governor also visited stalls showcasing rescue equipment and engaged with participating students, encouraging them to develop awareness about emergency response and their societal responsibilities.

The event was attended by senior officials from the CRPF, police officers, representatives from Guwahati Refinery, students, and other dignitaries.
