Woman Attempts Knife Attack at Mamata Banerjees Residence, TMC Leader Raises Alarm Over Security

A woman allegedly attempted to stab Mamata Banerjee at her residence, raising serious concerns about security measures in Kolkata.

Kolkata, October 13 (Daily Kiran) : A troubling incident unfolded at the residence of former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday. Saket Gokhale, a former Rajya Sabha member from the Trinamool Congress (TMC), reported that a woman armed with a knife attempted to attack Banerjee. This alarming event has prompted Gokhale to question the state’s security arrangements.

In a post on the social media platform X, Gokhale expressed his shock, stating, “Shocking news. A woman, reportedly addicted to drugs, arrived at Mamata Banerjee’s residence today and attempted to stab her.” He emphasized that this incident raises serious concerns about the safety of a leader who enjoys Z-plus security and has served as chief minister three times.

Gokhale speculated whether this incident was part of a larger conspiracy aimed at politically targeting Banerjee. He confirmed that a complaint has been filed, and he is awaiting the police’s response to the situation.

According to the complaint submitted to the Kalighat police station, the incident occurred around 6 PM. The woman, identified as Tanishta Saha, is described as a civic volunteer with a history of substance abuse. Allegedly, she approached Banerjee’s residence in a violent manner, claiming to be a relative while attempting to attack her with a knife.

The complaint further states that Saha used abusive language while trying to get close to the former chief minister. It also alleges that she lay down on the road, posing a threat to Banerjee’s safety.

The TMC has labeled this occurrence a serious security breach, expressing concern that someone could access the main entrance of a residence protected by Z-plus security.

The complaint requests that the police register the case under Section 173 of the Indian National Security Code and initiate an investigation based on photographs and videos related to the incident. Authorities are currently investigating all aspects of the case.
